Painted with India ink, not the Chinese ink block used for the past dozen or so Daily Cats. The liquid ink flows differently. I also added watercolor medium to the paint water, making it more viscous.

https://www.dailycat.bigcartel.comI’m using a Chinese solid ink with a caligraphy brush instead of the liquid Higgins ink I’ve been usung for months. The solid ink has a different consistancy and is easier to direct with water, I can control the contrast a lot better with it. Meow.

Olana, Hudson River Valley, New York, watercolor, 12×9″, 2020, copyrighted with allrights reserved by Jean Krueger Olana is the Victorian home of Frederick Church, a 19th c. landscape artist credited with the founding of the Hudson River School of painting. This painting is one view of the many panoramic sights that can be seen from this hilltop monument. The house is open to the public and a fascinating way to spend 2-3 hours. Bring your paints. I painted this sitting hunkered down on a bench in the damp New York winter.

Stampede Rodeo Stars, watercolor, 12×9″, 2020, copyrighted with all rights reserved by Jean Krueger July is Rodeo in Westcliffe, Colorado, and mixed team roping is one of my favorite events. The woman, the man and both horses work in tight partnership to rope a calf while riding at a full gallop out of the shoot. It’s not easy, and there’s a lot more misses than successful roping of a running beast.

Shell Station, Westcliffe, CO, watercolor, 12×9″, copyrighted with all rights reserved by Jean Krueger Painted en plein aire with the doors open to the cold wet night, this was entered in the Sangres Art Guild Alla Prima Westcliffe competition in September 2019. It was painted as I was hunkered down in my car with the door open. Plein aire is not my favorite way to paint a nocturne. It can be a real challenge, not that I’m not up for challenges. It’s a skill to be acquired through practice, lots of practice
