Quick like a cat.

I had a heck of a time sketching this portrait. I couldn’t get his head right. I paint these Daily Cats by sketching the outline and light parts of the image with a cheap, click type mechanical pencil. I erase frequently until I get an image that matches a photo I’ve taken. Getting the proportions right is often the main problem for me in getting an accurate representation. Control of this ink can also be challenging.

Cat anticipating the next new thing. Meow.

Cat Back in the early morning sun. Painted with India ink, not the Chinese ink block used for the past dozen or so Daily Cats. The liquid ink flows differently. I also added watercolor medium to the paint water, making it more viscous.

The Daily Cat poses endless possibilities. There are so many ways to observe him. During these glum times he keeps me centered. Meow.
