Sugar Pine Cone – Pinus lambertiana

Drawn to scale, the cone of the Sugar Pine shown here is in the medium range in size. These cones can grow to over two feet in length. They are superb in their symetry and the rythmic spiraling of their woody scales. https://www.dailypaintworks.com/buy/auction/1029498

Chicago

We were in Chicago the weekend after Thanksgiving, stayed a couple nights on Michigan Ave. Perfect fall/winter weather, wet and cool but not windy. Spent the day at the Art Institute, dinner at Berghoff’s. And walking, lovely lights and reflections. I love Chicago, wish I had a good reason to live there. https://www.dailypaintworks.com/buy/auction/1020587

Eastern White Pine Cone – Pinus strobus

I really like pine cones, there’s such variety across the various species. I like these for the shape of their seed scales, a wonderful drop-like curve. https://www.dailypaintworks.com/buy/auction/1020063

Gambel Oak – Quercus gambelii

The oaks are  starting to change colors here in the Colorado montane. The colors will be in the yellow/brown range this year due to the conditions that prevailed around here last summer. The leaves will fall by November and re-emerge next May, one of life’s comforting certainties. https://www.dailypaintworks.com/buy/auction/1001229
